The one can assume that virtualization refers to the number of virtual machines that are supported by the data center. However, most of the network elements can be virtualized, including NICs (network Interface Cards), switches, server hypervisors, and network adapters.
Currently, balance between virtualization and latency is such that low-latency applications do not use virtualization. However, in future latency overhead can be reduced with the help of better software and faster processors.
Migration of the virtual machines currently is problematic due to low-bandwidth links, and Layer 2 adjacency requirements. Ideally, virtualization should be automated with the help of standards-based tools.
